we have recently purchased a copy of Hogg and Bull's magnificent Herefordshire Pomona.

FIRST EDITION OF 'ONE OF THE FINEST FRUIT BOOKS EVER ISSUED' (Great Flower Books, p.59) and 'virtually an encyclopaedia of apples and pears' (Raphael, An Oak Spring Pomona 82). Nissen BBI 294.

published in parts between 1876 and 1885. for members of the Woolhope Club in Hereford. This is unusually bound into a single Volume, Volume 1 [10] + xix + [6] + 160pp, Volume 2 [5] + unpaginated text pages to accompany the plates, and at end a 10pp list of cider apples + 16pp Index. 77 chromolithograph full page plates after drawings by Alice B Ellis and Edith E Bull. 4 plain plates illustrations in text, tissue guards, very slight darkening of margins of plates, few minor spots,  The original front covers and title pages for parts 1-5 bound in at end [cover for part 1 is torn].Bound in half green calf/green paper covered boards by Harrison of Pall Mall, 2 red leather spine labels, gilt spine decoration. A few small white spots on rear cover, extremities lightly rubbed.  Bookplate of Philip Baylis with his name embossed on the front cover, HC Dawkins, from his father also written on above bookplate. Bound in are various leaflets put out to advertise the book, and an interesting coloured insert printed by Kings Acre Nurseries relating to an apple sold by the 'The Largest in the World' and sold in 1910 for £14 !!  This lovely rare book is contained in a purpose made wooden case.
